Family Resources: Recreation Tax Receipts

Claim your child’s recreation receipts at tax-time Thanks to recommendations made by Bloorview staff, Canadian parents of children with disabilities can claim up to $1,000 for registering their kids in physical activities such as camp, visits to a Snoezelen room or pool and even life-skills programs.

The Children’s Fitness Tax Credit – introduced in 2007 to encourage physical participation – allows Canadian parents to claim a $500 tax credit for their children’s recreation program fees.

Bloorview life-skills staff met with the Expert Panel for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit last year to argue that children with disabilities faced a number of additional costs to being active, and the panel agreed, doubling the tax credit to $1,000 for children with disabilities and including any equipment, transportation and attendant-care costs.

Don’t forget to save your receipts so you can benefit from this credit.
