Admissions: Respite Care

Respite Care

The Respite Care service supports families by providing short-term, inpatient care for children with disabilities or complex medical needs. Families may access up to six weeks of respite care each year. During peak periods, (e.g. school holidays, summer) the number of days may be limited to allow the maximum number of children/youth and families to access the service.

Note: A daily accommodation fee is charged for respite care. If there are questions regarding this fee, families are encouraged to contact our Family Relations Coordinator at 425-6220, ext. 3319.

Respite care is provided to children from birth to age 18 who have physical and/or developmental disabilities and require nursing care.

Types of Conditions:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Seizure disorders
  • Congenital and acquired airway and respiratory conditions
  • Multi-system disease with developmental/physical disability

Admission Criteria*:

  • Physical/developmental disability
  • Require nursing care

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Behavioural or active psychiatric issues (e.g. psychosis)
  • Drug/alcohol dependency
