Admissions: Specialized Orthopedic and Developmental Rehab Team (SODR)

Specialized Orthopedic and Developmental Rehab

The Specialized Orthopedic and Developmental Rehab team provides care to clients from birth to age 18 with a variety of musculoskeletal, developmental or neuromotor conditions. Clients admitted may have significant functional mobility and movement impairment related to the musculoskeletal system.

Examples of Conditions:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Limb deficiencies
  • Neuromuscular disorders (e.g. Guillian Barre syndrome, multiple sclerosis)
  • Post-operative orthopedic care
  • Orthopedic trauma (without associated acquired brain injury)
  • Complex wound management
  • Burns
  • Rheumatology conditions (e.g. arthritis flare-ups, dermatositis; lupus)
  • Chronic pain
  • Complex epilepsy
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Complications of prematurity
  • Congenital anomalies

Admission Criteria:

  • Requires medical and nursing care
  • Requires two or more professional services
  • Medically stable and demonstrated readiness for rehab

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Behavioural or active psychiatric issues (e.g. psychosis) limiting client’s ability to participate in rehab
  • Drug/alcohol dependency
