12th Annual Bay Street Pro Celebrity Softball Challenge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Toronto, ON, Saturday, July 12th, 2008 – The 12th Annual Bay Street Pro Celebrity Softball Challenge will take place on Saturday, July 12th at Riverdale Park between 8:00AM – 3:30PM.

This annual softball challenge brings North America’s financial industry together for an action packed fundraising event for The Bay Street Children’s Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in need.

The tournament is a two-day event held in Toronto, but the participants come from across Canada and The United States to raise money for children charities. The tournament includes brokers from Bay Street to Wall Street, celebrities and professional athletes including: NHL Hall of Famer Clark Gillies, and NHL Alumni Mark Napier and Gary Leeman to raise much-needed funds to ensure children are equipped to meet life’s challenges. To date, The Bay Street Children’s Foundation has raised over $1.5 million for children charities.

Each year over 500 participants come together for this weekend of softball, entertainment and friendly competition. “The event has grown significantly over the years. The money raised from the tournament and evening events like the live and silent auctions, and raffles go towards outstanding children’s charities, like Bloorview Kids Rehab, a facility that enable children with disabilities to achieve their personal best,” stated James Duncan, Founder of The Bay Street Children’s Foundation.

The tournament is a great for employee team building and to meet colleagues in the financial sector. The event also includes fun filled activities for kids including face painting, crafts and lots of performances.

To date, The Bay Street Children’s Foundation has already funded two therapeutic gymnasiums at Bloorview that are used for various programs including physiotherapy and recreational activities for inpatients and day patients, to maintain or improve health and their quality of life. In 2007, the Foundation committed to a new $500,000 project to fund a training apartment at Bloorview where teens with physical disabilities can practice activities for daily living.
