News: Bay Street bikers come together for “Bike for Tykes” in support of Bloorview Kids Rehab

Thursday June 26 10 a.m. - 2p.m

Toronto, ON, June 18, 2021 - The bikes are back for the 9th annual Bike for Tykes event, a community fundraiser in support of Bloorview Kids Rehab. Over 100 teams of 4 riders will spin on stationary bikes to upbeat music and be inspired by some of Toronto's leading spin instructors. The annual event proudly sponsored by Hicks Morley and in part by the Toronto Athletic Club, will take place on Thursday, June 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the TD Courtyard at the TD Centre (corner of Wellington and York streets).

Launched nine years ago, “Bike for Tykes” brings the community together for a fit and fun time. From a small start, its popularity has raised over $300,000 for Bloorview. "Several Bloorview Child Ambassadors will come to the event to participate in the celebration and cheer you on. Mostly, it is their ear-to-ear smiles as they cheer on the riders that make it one of the best ways that anyone can spend an hour that day - hugely rewarding," says Marni Hamilton, Co-Founder & Operations Executive for Bike for Tykes.

Bloorview Kids Rehab, Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation teaching hospital enables kids, like Alison, to achieve their personal best. Being in a wheelchair hasn’t stopped Alison achieve her dreams. She is a basketball star and played for Team Ontario in the Canada Games in both 2003 and 2007. "Bloorview opened up many doors for me! I love my Bloorview family and will stay connected to them forever," states Alison.

Money raised at this fantastic event will help improve the quality of life for kids and their families. Spend your lunch break -- rain or shine! -- to get some exercise and partake in a tremendous cause. To participate, all you need is a team of four to raise $750 and one short hour out of your day to ride. In return you will receive an astounding amount of satisfaction knowing that you are supporting such a meaningful organization. Join the community and get on your bike for a tyke and help Bloorview turn disability into possibility!
