Family
Advisory Committee
Join us to make
a difference!
Family
advisory members provide information about family-centred care
to students in health care
|
The
family advisory committee is a group of parents, youth and community
members who represent clients and families of the different programs
and service areas of Bloorview Kids Rehab. |
The
committee supports the organization’s
commitment to family-centred practice. We advise Bloorview's
Board of Trustees, staff and community partners on how to improve
services for children and youth with disabilities. We also influence
the decisions and activities, which guide the implementation of
family-centred practice.
Committee members play an important role in planning, creating
and enhancing programs and services for clients and families. |
How we are involved
The input of clients
and families help to make Bloorview a better place for children, youth
and families. As the family advisory committee, we are:
Advocates
- for the central
role of the family as a member on the health-care team
- in planning
with staff, senior administrators, and the Board of Trustees
- for clients and
families at public and government consultations.
Educators
- participating as mentor for new staff orientations and student training
Advisors
- acting as consultants
for articles in Connections newsletters, and in the development of
family education sessions
- reviewing, enhancing,
and developing new initiatives in programs and
services
- participating
in Bloorview's committees
(e.g., ethics, provincial outreach, capital project,
youth advisory, family support funds review, staff selection).
Learners
- acquiring information about innovations in services
- networking with advisory
groups from the Hospital for Sick Children, Ontario Association of
Children’s
Rehabilitation Services (OACRS), Child Health Network, Ontario Family
Advisory Network
Our meetings are
educational and informative. We have an educational half-hour at the
beginning
of the meeting. It is a great way to meet other parents and network with
them to help improve care and services for our children. The Family
Advisory
Committee meets on the last Thursday of each month on the Bloorview
site from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m (please call to confirm dates of meetings
you wish to attend).
Meetings are not
held in July, August or December
We need to
hear from you and hear how we can help make a difference. Alternately,
you may contact June Chiu, family relations co-ordinator at (416) 425-6220,
ext. 3319.

REMEMBER, TOGETHER
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
