Bloorview Kids Rehab offers you the opportunity to make a difference, impacting lives and challenging yourself in an atmosphere that is defined by dynamic people doing remarkable work on a daily basis.
Our team at Bloorview Kids Rehab is comprised of over 850 staff members who occupy full-time, part-time and casual positions.
Annually, over 7,500 young people and their families from across Ontario benefit from our outpatient clinics, hospital care, assistive technology services and community outreach initiatives.
We recognize that our exceptional service is a direct reflection of our organization’s staff. As a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and partnered with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO), your efforts will contribute to Bloorview’s outstanding reputation.
We employ registered nurses, ambulatory care nurses, registered practical nurses, and nursing students. Registered nurses at Bloorview are non-unionized, yet receive the same compensation rates as unionized Ontario Nurses Association nurses.
Bloorview is the first hospital in Ontario to develop a partnership with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario. The full cost of regular membership in RNAO, as well as membership in the Ontario Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and the Paediatric Nurses Interest Group, is covered for full-time and permanent part-time registered nurses.
Registered practical nurses are unionized and are represented by the Ontario Federation of Healthcare Workers.
Nursing students seeking to enhance their experience have the opportunity to work as health-care providers during the summer in our inpatient units. They also have opportunities to work part time during the year.
Bloorview Kids Rehab is proud of our nurses. Nurses participate on various committees and task forces and their influence is felt in our policies, procedures, goals and strategic plan.
Our philosophy supports a family-centred approach and our nurse-to-client ratios are generally 3 to 1.
We offer on-site educational opportunities and have clinical educators associated with each of our units to support your ongoing learning.
We demonstrate commitment to nursing research and are developing a clinical practice model based on family systems nursing.
Our family-centred care model puts families front and centre in the decisions and delivery of health care.
Bloorview is creating a Centre of Excellence in Child Development by providing leadership in the areas of clinical care, research, education and advocacy. Child development services are provided for a multitude of diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, cleft palate, autism, muscular dystrophy and others.
Young people often need rehabilitation following a surgery or trauma, such as an acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, or a severe burn. They may also require these services due to an underlying medical condition like juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Rehabilitation is provided on both an inpatient, day patient and outpatient basis.
Children with disabilities may also have unstable chronic illnesses or multi-system diseases. Many clients have tracheotomies or require mechanical ventilation. They require complex care and ongoing specialized assessment and intervention.
We have ongoing needs for full-time, part-time and casual nurses in both our pediatric rehabilitation and complex continuing care programs.
