Position: Ronald McDonald Playroom Staff

Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates planning, implementation and evaluation of FUN recreation/playroom programs
- Provides clients with opportunity for FUN and peer interaction
- Regular maintenance of room and equipment (includes sterilization of toys)
- Shifts are as follows: Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
- Monitor and ensure that parents/guardians sign children in and out of program and be aware of parents whereabouts in the event that they are needed
- Regularly record stats that reflect usage of the playroom
- Attends and contributes to Therapeutic Recreation meetings
- Embraces Bloorview’s philosophy regarding family-centred practice
- Develops and maintains positive and open communication with staff and assigned volunteers
- Trains, supervises and evaluates volunteers as assigned
- Maintains current knowledge and training in Bloorview’s Emergency Action Plans and practices safe program implementation within Patient Safety and Risk Management guidelines
- Adheres to organizational policies and procedures
- Duties as assigned by Snoezelen Coordinator (Snoezelen is a controlled multi-sensory environment designed for individuals with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Bloorview runs a community based Snoezelen room and pool program, as well as Snoezelen facilities for inpatients)
- Adheres to Standards of Practice for Therapeutic Recreation and TRO Code of Ethics
- Remains current with professional Best Practice
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Early Childhood Education or humanities equivalent preferred.
- Membership in Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) preferred
- Maintains current certification in CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Previous work with children with disabilities a must
- Previous recreation program planning, implementation required
- Previous experience of facilitating a group
- Proven ability to be self-directed
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate recreation programs
- Able to relate well to professionals children, adolescents, family members and volunteers
- Good at managing fluctuating responsibilities
- Able to manage flexible working hours
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Able to organize time and meet deadlines
- Read communication tools e.g. E-mails, and Bulletin Board
