Professional Development Opportunities

As a learning organization, Bloorview Kids Rehab values and is enriched by the ongoing learning and development of staff.  We provide support for their involvement in a range of continuing education initiatives. Support is provided for attending and/or participating in conferences, workshops and courses, plus paid professional development days for attending conferences, workshops, writing exams, studying and writing papers.

A bursary program is available to help staff in academic programs at the degree, diploma and certificate level.  There is also a wide variety of in-house learning opportunities, as well as research opportunities within our Bloorview Research Institute.  All new staff participate in an orientation program and are offered mentoring opportunities.

Workplace Well-being

The Workplace Well-being program is designed to help our staff meet the challenge of balancing work and personal responsibilities, while ensuring a healthy, bias-free workplace for everyone.

We provide an on-site fitness facility and activities where staff can keep physically active by making use of:

  • a fully equipped on-site gym
  • pool
  • regularly held fitness activities and sessions, such as:
    • fitness classes, Pilates, sport teams (co-ed volleyball, floor hockey, soccer, baseball), curling events, golf days, ski days, etcetera.  

When staff participate in personal development, learning, physical health and well-being sessions, they earn points towards rewards, which include free coffees and time off.

Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program provides staff and their family with access to short-term confidential and professional counselling, where problems can be resolved in an environment of understanding and strict privacy.
